About Us

Date: November 4, 2008

Location:

Conference Main Sight: Oasis Edmonton Conference

Designated Regional Sight: St. Paul Regional High School (4701 – 44 Street) Room 123 & 124 St. Paul, Alberta

Background: Distributed Learning (DL) is a model by which learning and teaching is distributed across a variety of delivery formats and mediums – print, digital (online), and traditional delivery methods, allowing students and their teachers to be separated by time and/or location.

DL connects students with teachers across the province, providing choice, flexibility and authentic learning experiences. It offers the potential of exploring different relationships and building highly personalized and individualized learning opportunities for student success.

Alberta’s Distributed Learning Strategy, led by Alberta Education, highlights a collaborative effort throughout the education sector to create a beneficial environment where school authorities work together for the benefit of Alberta students.

This provincial Forum provides the opportunity to:

  • Examine scenarios of how distributed learning might take place in Alberta in the future and explore possible ways to enable learning to happen independent of time and/or location.
  • Make recommendations toward a provincial approach to distributed learning to ensure that Alberta students have equitable access to high quality learning opportunities and choices that are independent of time and/or location.

Part A (online, in your own time):  Online conversations are launched October 20! Participate in creative online explorations and conversations about teaching and learning practice, resource development, governance and leadership, and technology. Your contributions now will set the stage for the November 4 event.  Go to http://www.arpdc.ab.ca/dlforum to participate.

Part B – November 4:  Alberta's ECS-12 Distributed Learning Forum is a full-day province-wide event.  Space at each satellite location is limited to an initial three representatives of each school jurisdiction within that region; others may leave their names on a waiting list, in case space opens up closer to the event.
