What exactly are Web 2.0 tools and how many have a place in today’s classroom? How can the latest online tools be used to transform and expand the learning experience? Will Web 2.0 be truly transformative or will it just offer a few short-term magic tricks to lure more students towards learning?  Will Web 2.0 lead to School 2.0? 

During this two-day session, teachers and technology leaders will be introduced to School 2.0- the harnessing of powerful online mindtools (such as Google for Educators, blogs, wikis, digital storytelling and other Web 2.0 tools) for the purpose of enhancing learning in social studies and other core curriculum. Session participants will view inspiring examples of how innovative teachers are using Web 2.0 in their classroom and explore how to transfer their learning to their own school or district.

The ultimate goal for these sessions will be to begin the conversation about how effective use of emerging tools can facilitate teaching reform that will lead to deep learning, increased student engagement, and overall improvement in student achievement through the use of technology. 

About the Presenter:

Brenda Dyck is a teacher, university instructor and technology integration coach from Calgary, Alberta. Author of "The Rebooting of a Teacher's Mind, Brenda writes the "Hotlinks" column in Middle Ground magazine, a publication of the National Middle School Association and is a regular columnist for Education World and Classroom Connect. An international speaker on teaching and technology, her professional contributions earned her the winning place in the 2004 Global Junior Challenge in Rome, Italy for her telecollaborative project “We the Children...". Brenda has been a finalist in the Global SchoolNet's Shared Learning Awards in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and was recently was chosen by Surfaquarium as one of the Top Ten Online Educators for 2005.
