Introduction to Traditional Foods

Description: Participants will learn about the traditional gathering and preparing process of foods, gain a better understanding of what a traditional diet consisted of and its importance.  They will compare traditional perspectives of food with the modern day view and gain a greater appreciation of this element of culture.  Participants will have the chance to make a grocery store version of Pemmican.

Introduction to Celebration

Description: Participants will learn about different types of First Nation celebrations, dances and songs.  The participants will also learn about celebration elements and their special order.  They will gain an understanding of present day gatherings compared to gatherings many years ago.  They will also participate in a quick dance activity and gain a greater appreciation of this element of culture.

This learning opportunity is being offered through curriculum implementation funding from Alberta Education.
