Learning Opportunities

Jackie loves making sense of the use and abuse of concrete materials, understanding the importance of visual, spatial reasoning for the development of number sense, problem solving skills, and learning to ask good questions are four areas that greatly intrigue her. Jackie currently works as an independent consultant and instructional coach to teams of teachers, over the past 19 years, in several districts across the province. Her work is focused on unpacking the Alberta Program of Studies in ways that honor and value its intent of a student-centered approach to understanding, which allows each student to become capable, confident, and responsible for their own learning.

Charlie is an educational consultant for Learning Network Educational Services. Experience as a classroom teacher (Gr 112), school-based coordinator (LA/SS and Inclusive Education), and vice principal (K-8 school), helps her craft unique professional learning opportunities for educators. Important in the work we do as designers of professional learning is using the same teaching strategies and tools that teachers can use in their classrooms while honoring them as competent adult learners. Charlie is a Learning Transfer Endorsed Educator as well as the Regional Network Chair of @WomenEdAlberta (part of the global #WomenEd network supporting and encouraging women in formal and informal leadership positions). She is passionate about instructional leadership and improving teacher practice for all learners’ benefit.

Lana Lane is an Independent Literacy Consultant.  She resides on an acreage outside of Canada's only border city, Lloydminster, Saskatchewan.  She has been a classroom teacher of Pre-K-Gr.2, an Instructional Literacy Coach K-12, and currently contracts with the Learning Network Educational Services and Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta.  She has spent many years studying the five essential elements of effective reading instruction; Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Fluency, Vocabulary and Comprehension and enjoys facilitating workshops across the province.  She is a dynamic speaker with a true passion for literacy.
