We will start our day taking a reflective journey through 500+ years of history through participating in the Blanket Exercise.  As we will be on Treaty 6 territory, we will also learn some of the Treaty 6 context through this interactive activity.  Following the Blanket Exercise, we will reflect on the experience through a Sharing Circle.

As Treaty Relationships are an important part of the Blanket Exercise, we will move into understanding our Alberta treaties.

  • We will examine the history of treaty relationships.
  • We will consider the directions set out by the TRC and the Alberta government to learn about treaty relationships.
  • We will analyze the impacts of treaty relationships on Indigenous people, your school, your community and the province.
  • We will explore ideas, resources and strategies that will help develop understanding of the impacts of treaty relationships.

This learning opportunity is being offered through curriculum implementation funding from Alberta Education.
