There are some things that it is just about impossible to disparage, even in the jaded age in which we live.  To provide the fairest assessment possible for each student is one example of a “Motherhood and Apple Pie” concept.

Teachers strive to be as fair as possible in their assessment practices but there are many barriers to fully achieving this ideal.  This session offers participants the opportunity to examine their current assessment practices and see how well they align to established national guidelines. The session begins with an egg-weighing competition with a purpose disclosed as the session unfolds.  After a presentation on the challenges to achieving fair assessment, the “principles of fair assessment” will be examined.  Session participants will then have an opportunity to reflect on how well their assessment practices reflect established standards.  The session will conclude with time for sharing perceptions, for questions to the presenter, and with the awarding of a dozen free-range eggs to one participant.

This learning opportunity is being offered through a grant from Alberta Education.
